Depending on your current health insurance provider, it is possible for services to be covered in part or in full. Please consult with your insurance company ahead of your appointment to verify how your plan compensates for psychotherapy services by asking the following:
Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?
What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
What is my copay or coinsurance amount?
Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it yet?
Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?
Is Vivian Ryu, LCSW in-network?
If Vivian Ryu, LCSW is out-of-network, how much does my plan cover for an out-of-network provider?
Do I need authorization to receive services? What are the pre-approval requirements?
Can you verify that telehealth is covered under my policy?
**Please note that benefits are an agreement between you and your insurance company. I cannot guarantee any insurance coverage or reimbursement. If you have eligibility concerns or questions, you should contact your insurance provider directly.
Out-of-Network Superbill
I may be considered as a provider for your out-of-network coverage. This means that you will pay for your services and request a reimbursement from your insurance company. For your reimbursement, a “Super Bill” will be provided to you upon your request. A Super Bill is a special receipt which includes specific information that your insurance company need in order to consider your request for reimbursement or for your request for your charges to be counted toward your deductible. It is important to know that reimbursement is not guaranteed as not all insurance companies will reimburse you, or they may not reimburse you for the full cost of the service(s) provided.
Out-of-Network Single Case Agreement
Another option may be requesting a Single Case Agreement (SCA) from your insurance company. A SCA allows an out-of-network provider to be considered in-network for a single case. You may qualify for a single case for an exception to see a out-of-network provider depending on your unique needs and by the conditions set forth by your health insurance company. Some examples of conditions may be:
when the individual is in need of specialized treatment for a specific condition
In-Network providers are not available locally
first available and frequency of available appointments with an in-network provider will not be sufficient to meet the needs of the individual
treatment will keep the individual out of the hospital or cut down the cost of medications
continuity of care
a therapeutic relationship has been already established and the individual finds it very hard to trust others due to the individual's complex needs
if there is evidence that the individual would be adversely affected if required to transition to an in-network provider
For information of how to request and/or to see the specific conditions for a SCA for your health insurance company is to search in their manual or to contact them directly. I am happy to advocate for you to understand your insurance benefits and support single case agreements, if appropriate and dependent on your health insurance company's approval.
Self Pay
If you would prefer to self pay rather than use insurance, that is always an option. Please inquire about this prior to your first appointment. Sliding scale can be discussed if this option is necessary.
